How to look and feel your best during your photoshoot
Booking a brand shoot for your business is a big deal. It’s a celebration of how far you’ve come and you deserve to look and feel amazing during it. Here are my top tips on how to look and feel your best during a photoshoot.
It's all in the prep
The key to a stress-free shoot is being organised and planning ahead. The 3 main things you need to worry about when it comes to planning a shoot are; outfits, location & props. I’d recommend starting with securing a location because once you have this, you can plan what outfits will compliment the space and then figure out what props you’ll need to enhance the location too. Once you’ve nailed all these things, it’ll be a breeze. Give yourself plenty of time to plan all of this so you’re not stressed. I like to allow at least 4 weeks planning time from booking a client in, to the shoot date.
Communication is key
Talk to your photographer. Ask them for advice. Get their input and ideas on how you could be doing things differently. It’s highly likely that they will have done this more times than you have. Tap into their knowledge and let their creativity flow. This is their bag. Put your faith & trust into someone with experience and tell them what it is you want clearly. Give them all your thoughts and ideas and they’ll tell you what’s manageable in the time frame you choose. If you’re not sure what you do want but you know what you don’t want, communicate that to them as well!
Pamper time
These photos are an investment and so it’s worth spending that extra money on yourself to pamper yourself ahead of your session. Book that bouncy blow-dry. Upgrade those nails. Secure that make-up artist. Buy those new clothes. When you look great, you feel great. Put in that extra time & effort into your appearance and you’ll be amazed at the photos afterwards. It doesn’t have to be over the top, it’ll just take the stress away of having to do everything yourself last minute. This is an investment in yourself so it’s worth showing up as the best possible you that you can.
Music is good for the soul
Do you have a go-to playlist for when you need a mood boost? This is what you need to be listening to on the morning of your shoot. Feel good tunes, high energy, positive vibes. This will get you fired up & feeling good. If I’m shooting in an indoor location, I always like to bring my speaker so I can play my clients fave music during their session which really helps them relax and have some fun.
Book a photographer that you actually get on with
Booking a photographer is such a personal thing as we all have our own styles and ways of working. I like to describe my sessions as chilled, relaxed and fun. I want it to feel like a friend is taking your photographs. This in turn makes you more comfortable and yields the best results for the images. It’s so important to book someone you like and that you get on with as you’ll be with them for a good few hours on your session day. So, have a chat with a few different people whose work you like and see which person feels like the right fit for you.
Make a list, check it twice
If it all feels a bit much thinking about all the things to remember, write them down. Make a list of things you need to do and things you need to bring and check them off once you’ve done it. This will help you to not forget things on the morning of your session. I’d also recommend packing your bag the night before so you’re not rushing in the morning.
