5 must-have shots for your next brand photoshoot

In this post, I’m going to be sharing 5 must-have shots for your next brand photoshoot. If you’re in the process of planning a shoot with a photographer and they’ve asked you what type of images you want to create, you’ll want to make sure that theses ideas are front of mind.

1. The Headshot

As I’m sure you may know, showing up online is super important for your brand for a number of reasons. It helps put the word out there that you and your services/products exist, it shows there’s a real human behind your business (not a robot) and it helps you build a connection with your audience. For me personally, I think having a clear headshot of you is the key to all of this. Whenever I come across a business online, I want to see who’s behind it. I want to connect a face to the name. It builds trust, authenticity and connection. Your headshot should appear on the ‘about me/us’ page of your website and be visible on all of your social media platforms. It should also be the same image across all platforms to build brand consistency and be recognisable across the board.

2. Banner Images

Banner images are really versatile and should definitely be on your must-have shot list. You can use them as header images on your website pages and as cover photos on your social platforms (think Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest). Having a variety of banner images can be really useful to use on different pages on your website that connect to different topics. It’s also a good thing to update seasonally or if you run promotions and offers.

3. Action Shots

Whether you’re a service based business or product based, it’s always great to see action shots of you at work. Your audience are keen to see what goes on behind the scenes of your business and this is a great way to show them what you do in more detail. Whether you’re a coach who takes calls in your home office or a jewellery maker who creates bespoke pieces in a workshop, these are a must-have for any business owner.

4. Detail Shots

Detail shots add so much interest and dimension to a gallery of portraits so they need to be on your must-have shot list. They’re a great way to show scale, any logo/branded items you may have or any items that have significant value to you as a business owner. They work well on “Services” pages and spark great conversations on social posts too. Using props or corners of your workspace are great ways to incorporate detail shots into your gallery.

5. Space for text

Creating images with space for text is a really fun way to engage with your audience on socials. We can shoot against plain coloured backdrops or you can bring a piece of card/foam board to hold which you can add text to later.
