Imagine a 7-year-old taking pictures on a wedding dance floor
And you’re picturing me, the first time I knew I wanted to be a photographer. (Fittingly, I do have photographic evidence of this moment – head to my Instagram to find it). I was immediately enamoured with being able to freeze a moment in time, and then being able to look back at it and relive history.
I’m equally in awe of it now as I was then, and just as convinced that photography is magic, even 23 years later…
what dreams are made of
Though Bethany Lavin Photography was technically born on that dance floor, it officially came to be on stage at The Photography Show in 2016. I was so dedicated to making a career out of photography that I entered a competition where first place got you the kit, tools and guidance from industry experts to help kickstart my career and start my self-employed life. Spoiler alert: I won, and it’s still one of the proudest moments of my life.

get to know your camerawoman
I love dogs (Jack Russells have my heart); going to new restaurants (especially if they serve pasta) and BBQs. Blood orange San Pellegrino’s are my drink of choice, and I’m regularly poking holes in my ears to add more jewels to them! I’m a strictly silver-only jewellery wearer, don’t drink coffee but love a Chai Latte from Gail’s, and I’ve gone from disliking Crocs to owning two pairs. They’re so comfy and I will keep adding to my collection, but I PROMISE to never turn up to a shoot in them. Unless we’re shooting at a water park.
the magic of collaboration and connection
The thing I love most about photography is the connection – to the people, places, and even the products on the other side of the camera. It’s about storytelling and translating your magic through the lens, and ultimately, about helping connect you with the people who need your brilliance.
That’s why with me, you get a photographer first and a gal pal as a very close second. Both my camera skills and my human approach are what enables me to capture photos that lets you and your business shine in the way that only you can.
