Why it’s important to have professional photography for small businesses

In this digital age that we’re in, it’s more important than ever for small businesses to have great imagery. Not only does it allow you to showcase the amazing products or services that you sell, but it also makes your sales more personal as your customers can also see the human behind the brand.

In this post, I’m going to be detailing the reasons why it’s so important to have professional photography for small businesses.

Let’s get into it.

A picture tells a thousand words

A great saying and so true. Pictures tell a thousand words. They are storytelling aids in such a powerful form. Having clear, quality images is so important when storytelling and connecting with new potential clients (as well as nurturing existing clients). Images make people feel things – particularly connection, which allows them to join the dots between themselves and your business. This can only lead to great things. You know that saying I always bang on about? The know, like and trust factor? It all comes back to this. To make great, personal sales, your audience needs to feel like they know, like and trust you. By having images where you’re looking straight to camera allows your people to look right into your eyes which enhances the trust between them and you.

Keeping up appearances

When I asked my audience why they think it’s important to have professional photography, the main word that came up was around appearing professional.

“I want to look professional and have content ready to go”

“To show I’m serious about my image and professionalism

“It’s important for me to communicate myself as a brand and do so in a professional but fun manner.”

Having pro shots not only makes you look and feel good but it also shows people that you’re taking your business seriously. When your clients can see you investing in yourself and your business, it shows them that you really care about what you do and that you want to showcase it in the best way possible. With high-quality images taken by someone who knows what they’re doing (aka moi).

“I think everything people see about your brand has to be slick for people to view you as value. If we invest in things like a good website, creative and good quality pics and well-thought out words, it’s the next best thing to getting physically in front of your ideal client.”

Couldn’t have put this better myself.

Show up with confidence

Another great reason to have professional images for your small business is to help you boost your confidence. As business owners, I think a lot of the time we forget to pat ourselves on the back for our wins, whether they are big or small. Because for a lot of us, we’re one-human bands, we haven’t got anyone telling us that we’re doing an amazing job and so our confidence can sometimes dip. I know mine certainly does. (You’re doing amazing by the way).

Documenting your business journey is really important! You’ve created and built this fabulous business and your story is worth capturing. And this should be a fun experience. Put on your fave outfit, do whatever it takes to feel good (for me it’s putting on a red lip and dancing to a banging playlist) and just have fun with it! Remember that this shoot is for you and no-one else so try to learn to let go of what other people think of you.

Also, if your audience sees you showing up with confidence, it could really help them with their own struggles with confidence. I don’t think any of us understand what influence we may have with certain people and so by proudly showing up, you might inspire others to do the same.

And so that concludes this blog post! And these are just some of the ways why having professional photography for small businesses is important. I hope you’ve found this read useful and be sure to stick around the blog for more content like this.
